About the retreat
This is the perfect mother's day retreat for those who want something special, unique, relaxing and fun. Book you and your mum for a day of zen, relaxation, fun, nature, yummy food and crafts at this lovely event in Armathwaite.
There will be hot drinks with biscuits, gentle yoga as well as partner yoga whereby mum and daughters will buddy up for some poses - this will bring the fun and laughter to yoga! There will also be some chair yoga involved which is very accessible for most people of all ages. After this, we will get into a relaxed, laying down postion using mats, blankets and big cushions for comfort as we enter into a state of tranquil with some guided meditation. There will also be an immersive and magical sound healing session which is a unique alternative to meditation using a range of holistic instruments (such as a shamanic drum, tibetan bowls, gong etc.) After this magical journey, we will gradually get ourselves up and ready for some delicious lunch - and cake! The woodland walk will be after we have eaten which is local to the hall along the River Eden. This is a lovely way to connect with nature, get a bit of exercise, fresh air and ground ourselves whilst socialising with good company. We will all have a bag each to collect some natural materials that we find along our walk to include in our picture frame making. This can be sticks, cones, nuts, leaves, feathers, rocks - whatever catches your eye! (there will be some natural materials at the workshop already as backup). We will be finishing the day with decorating our own picture frames using natural items for something that reminds you of your day together, as well as bring something back home with you - or give as a gift to one-another! You can bring some photos on the day to put in your frame (details are mentioned further down).

Where is the venue?
The Old School can be found on google maps by clicking this link here which has the google coordinates. Or, just head towards the Christ & St. Marys Church as the hall is right next to it. It will look like an old school hall building and will have a little road that takes you around the back of it to its carpark, however some people find it easier to park along the bridge just up from the Dukes Head Inn as the carpark to the hall is a little awkward to drive in and out of. The bridge is very wide and you can park right next to the pavement and leave your car there for the day and it's about a 5 minute walk to the hall from here. Never panic if you are struggling to find the hall - just give me a ring on 07826 793126. You will also be emailed details of the venue when you book. To avoid any stress, it's always best to allow plenty of time and arrive a little bit early. The address is:
Old School Hall, Front St, Armathwaite, Carlisle CA4 9PF
What do I need?
PLEASE BRING ALONG WITH YOU A PHOTO EACH THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO FRAME FOR THE CRAFTING ACTIVITY - you can bring one photo, or multiple smaller photos if you want to make a collage. PHOTO DIMENSIONS: NO BIGGER THAN A4 (210 x 297mm / 8.3 x 11.7inch / 21.0 x 29.7 cm) - don't panic if you forget your photo or can't bring one, we can still decorate our nature frames which you will bring home with you, but it's nice to have photos so you can visualise which one looks best in your frame. You will be able to change the photo when you get home if you wanted to so it's not permanent.
You may also want to bring along with you a small item that means something to you and your mum to be attached/glued to your DIY picture frames - this is optional.
If you only have a digital copy of a photo but have no printer, email me your photo and I will print it for you.
What should I bring?
Comfortable clothing for the yoga is important to allow free movement. Extra layers is also important to bring in case it's chilly. The hall will have heating, but it's always good to have backup. Bring suitable walking shoes or boots for the woodland walk and some waterproofs in case it rains. If you need an inhaler, you must bring it to the retreat and on the walk outside. If you take any medication during the day, please remember to bring it and inform us of any medical conditions when booking. Bring a water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the day (there will be drinking water and glasses at the hall but a bottle is less likely to spill fluid). For the art at the end of the day, you may want to bring an apron or old top to protect your clothes from paint/ glue. We wont be doing anything really messy, but it's always good to be prepared. You won't need to bring a yoga mat or blankets/belts with you as you will be able to borrow them at the retreat. If you want to use your own however, you are more than welcome to. Lunch is provided at the retreat, but if you would prefer to bring your own, you can, however the ticket price will be the same. Bring along with you a photo (or a few photos) to put inside of your photo frame. The frames are A4 in size, but the photos can be smaller. If you want to make a collage, then bring as many small photos as you can to cut out and collage together. All materials like scissors, glue guns, frames etc... will be provided.
Is this suitable for me?
If you have any questions at all, or if you are unsure whether or not the retreat is right for you, please get in touch before booking. We try to adapt and cater the retreat to suit most people, however if you have any disability, injury, recently recovered from surgery, or struggle physically with moving / walking, you must get in touch before booking so that we can assess if the retreat is suitable and safe for you as we may be able to come up with adaptations that allow you to participate still. If you struggle with loud noises, strong smells or flashing lights, please let us know beforehand so we can discuss if there are ways in which we can make adaptations to allow you to feel comfortable at this event. There will be a diffuser with essential oils, an aurora star light which projects light on the ceiling and the instruments used for sound healing can be overwhelming for those sensitive to sound - this will only be during the yoga/meditation, not the entire retreat.
Health & Safety
It is your responsibility when booking that you inform us of any allergies, medical conditions or physical disability (Physical disability is defined as a “limitation on a person's physical functioning, mobility, dexterity or stamina” that has a 'substantial' and 'long-term' negative effect on an individual's ability to do normal daily activities.) You take part at this event at your own risk as everything has been risk assessed and the yoga instructor is a qualified yoga instructor, but all forms of movement can have at least a small risk of injury depending on the persons body, health or past injuries. Instructions during activities will be given clearly, with adaptations and variations to suit different people, but only you can feel what is right for your body and where your own limits are. It is important you do not push beyond what feels right for you.
Refund policy
Tickets at this retreat are non-refundable due to limited numbers and overhead costs. You can give your ticket to somebody else however, should you be unable to attend - please make sure they let us know of any medical conditions beforehand and by allowing them to book, they agree to the terms and conditions of this retreat. We will also need their full name and contact details.
