About this event - starts at 8pm - finishes at 9:30pm on Monday 13th May

Discover a whole new outlook on life with this sound healing event that will help you to relax, unwind and remove stress from your body and mind. In this heavenly event, you will be transported through a dreamy, guided meditation, which will prepare you for the most peaceful sound healing which includes various intruments such as a gong, tibetan bowls, drums, chimes, an ocean drum & more.

What to expect?

A short, guided meditation

The first 20-25 minutes will be a guided meditation session that will take you through a journey to higher self. This will begin with some guided breathing to reset your nervous system & slow down your heart rate, which will help your mind to relax. The meditation will be focusing on "finding your answers" and staying true to yourself, allowing you to stay on track in life and help you to follow your "own path" to happiness. It will be powerful, positive & refreshing. Then, we will be entering into a whole hour of deep sound healing. This is going to be transformative, healing & magical.

Sound Bath

This will start with shamanic drumming which is very grounding and stimulating within the body and mind, but also relaxing. The next instrument will be an ocean drum, creating mystical & realistic sounds of the ocean waves, crashing in and around you as though you are laying on a tropical beach. The Chinese gong will be like travelling through space, or a dream of tranquil with the most immersive & interesting, yet powerful soundwaves. The chimes will add a spark of peace after, as we bring the energy in the hall down to pure peace. Then we finish with the soothing melodies of the Tibetan bowls which will send you into a deeper state of tranquil.

What is shamanic drumming?

Drum therapy is an ancient approach that uses rhythm to promote healing and self-expression. From the shamans of Mongolia to the Minianka healers of West Africa, therapeutic rhythm techniques have been used for thousands of years to create and maintain physical, mental, and spiritual health.

What are the benefits of shamanic drum healing?

According to Soul Rhythm African Drumming, "The reason rhythm is such a powerful tool is that it permeates the entire brain. Vision, for example, is in one part of the brain, speech another, but drumming accesses the whole brain. The sound of drumming generates dynamic neuronal connections in all parts of the brain even where there is significant damage or impairment such as in Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)."

Not only does the drum spark neural connections, but it also grounds us and connects us to the Earth. This can have a centering and stabilizing effect on the listener.

Drumming is very powerful, and can seem intrusive at first because of its dominance, but when you allow the sound in, it can shift bottled up tension and pain from your body and mind, making it easier to let go and heal. It captures the minds attention, making it difficult to wander and overthink, keeping you focused on the sound which allows space to relax the brain. There is no right or wrong way to experience a sound bath, it is unique to everyone and changes over time the more sound baths you have.

What is an Ocean Drum?

An ocean drum isn't used in the same way of your usual drum; it has tiny metal balls inside of what looks like a normal drum, but the way it is tilted and moved creates realistic sounds of crashing waves that somehow travels around an entire hall and through your body. The relaxing effect that the ocean sounds have on us is due to something called “acoustic camouflage”. This is a passive sound that drowns out a lot of other noises and distractions and helps to clear our minds of anxieties and other pressing concerns. It's incredible for over-thinkers, people with ADHD or those who are struggling with anxiety or fear. It offers a sense of "safety" which helps to get rid of stressful or overwhelming thoughts.

What is a Gong?

A Gong is the ultimate Sound Healing tool, as it has the broadest range of tones of any instrument. This vast range of sound literally bathes the human form and re-tunes us on every level – physical, mental, emotional and spiritual – thus helping to bring us back into harmony. I work in a very intuitive way so each sound bath can feel different and bring in the instruments and sounds that feel right at the time. Gong sounds are able to reduce stress and tension and in turn increase blood circulation. This helps bring down our blood pressure and improve our overall mood. When we feel calmer and happier, our mood improves, stress levels lower and we can also sleep better.

What are Tibetan bowls?

Sound therapy with Tibetan singing bowls is an ancient form of regeneration. The first bowls were made from an alloy of various metals and were used already 6000 years ago in the Far East. Tibetan singing bowls area a mysterious acoustic phenomenon, which was discovered by “spiritual tourists” in the Himalayas and after the Chinese invasion of Tibet appeared also in Europe and the USA.

The sound of Tibetan singing bowls and the gong harmonizes and allows deep relaxation of both sides of the brain. It stimulates stress relief on all levels and the elimination of toxins from the body. After sound therapy emotions are calm and the mind clearer, and the sound vibrations have effect on the body after the singing bowls have been played on it.

What do I need?

You just need to bring comfy, warm clothing as you will be laying down for quite some time (you are welcome to of course move/change position when you need to) - there will be blankets, cushions and mats, however depending on how many numbers we get, we advice that you bring cushions/blankets/bean bags - whatever is comfortable for you in case the spare get used up. Make sure you don't drink lots of fluid right beforehand as having a full bladder makes it very difficult to enjoy the experience to the fullest. There will be a small window half-way for a toilet break and a stretch/move around. Please also make sure your phones are off or on silent to avoid any disruptions during the session.

Where is the venue?

The Market Hall is situated in the centre of the market town of Wigton, located on the Solway Plain North Cumbria, and is easily accessible via the A595 Carlisle to Workington road. It is right opposite Water Street Carpark -  The google coordinate for this hall can be found here

Where do I park?

There is a carpark outside of the Wigton Market Hall which is a pay and display carpark (although it will be evening, we can't gurantee you wont get a warden check the carpark). Alternatively, you can park in any other carpark in Wigton or along a road and walk as the hall is right in the middle of the town, so easy access on foot.

Is this suitable for me?

If you have any questions at all, or if you are unsure whether or not the event is right for you, please get in touch before booking. We try to adapt and cater these events to suit most people, however if you have any disability, injury, recently recovered from surgery, or struggle physically with moving / walking, you must get in touch before booking so that we can assess if the event is suitable and safe for you as we may be able to come up with adaptations that allow you to participate still. There are chairs at the hall if you prefer to sit rather than lying down. If you struggle with loud noises, strong smells or flashing lights, please let us know beforehand so we can discuss if there are ways in which we can make adaptations to allow you to feel comfortable at this event. There will be a diffuser with essential oils, an aurora star light which projects light on the ceiling and the instruments used for sound healing can be overwhelming for those sensitive to sound.

It is normal to feel a lot of different emotions during any relaxation/meditation event so please don't worry if you feel like you need to cry - this can happen to some people and it is nothing to be embarrassed by. It's actually a good sign because you are releasing bottled up emotion that needed to come out - you are in a safe and non-judgemental space.

Health & Safety

It is your responsibility when booking that you inform us of any allergies, medical conditions or physical disability (Physical disability is defined as a “limitation on a person's physical functioning, mobility, dexterity or stamina” that has a 'substantial' and 'long-term' negative effect on an individual's ability to do normal daily activities.) You take part at this event at your own risk as everything has been risk assessed and the yoga instructor is a qualified yoga instructor, but all forms of movement can have at least a small risk of injury depending on the persons body, health or past injuries. Instructions during activities will be given clearly, with adaptations and variations to suit different people, but only you can feel what is right for your body and where your own limits are. It is important you do not push beyond what feels right for you. For relaxation and meditation workshops or retreats, we will be in the same position potentially for a long period, so it is vital that you are comfortable and not in pain. Inform the instructor and we can try and make alterations for you. If you are prone to blood clots due to a condition, then please bring compression socks to wear and let us know.

Refund policy

Tickets at this event are non-refundable. You can give your ticket to somebody else however, should you be unable to attend - please make sure they let us know of any medical conditions beforehand and by allowing them to book, they agree to the terms and conditions of this workshop.
